Q9 Environment & Flooding – Barn Hotel special meeting questions

This is one of eleven questions posed to the prospective developer for the plans at the former Barn Hotel at our special public meeting on 23 October 2024.

Written answer

What measures will the developer implement to mitigate the risks of negative environmental impacts of the development, particularly in terms of flooding and biodiversity, and how will they ensure that the project contributes positively to the local environment?

The Sustainable Drainage System design (SuDs) has been sized to accommodate a 1 in 100 year storm event and allow a 40% uplift for climate change.  It contains features such as; Green Roofs, underground attenuation crates and flow restriction which means that surface water will enter the storm drains at an equivalent rate as if it were a green field.

The site achieves greater than a 10% increase in Biodiversity Net Gain, exceeds the requirements for Urban Greening and has been subject to a full Ecological Assessment to mitigate any risk to existing wildlife.
