This is just a reminder about the above scam mobile (and landline?) calls purporting to be from HMRC which is resurfacing again.
Briefly, a call is made (usually from a mobile number)and the recipient is told that it is from HMRC and that you are being taken to court. You are asked to press 1 to be connected to your so called case officer. You will undoubtedly be asked for your bank details to pay off an alleged tax debt – and threatened with court proceedings if you don’t. Do not in any circumstances fall for this scam. HMRC will never contact you in such a way and will never ask you to provide bank account details over the phone. The best advice is to end the call immediately. Remember you can report these “phishing” scams to your call provider for them to investigate.
General advice on how to prevent being a victim of scams such as these have been published on the OWL network.
