Following the retirement of Mrs Gill Westbrook in July 2020, the Governors have appointed Mrs Rachel Blake as the new Head Teacher from September 2020. Mrs Blake is an experienced Head Teacher, who previously held that post at Whiteheath Nursery and Infant School. For her the wheel has come full circle as Mrs Blake began her career in teaching at Bishop Winnington-Ingram Primary School when newly qualified.
When appointed Mrs Blake said: I am delighted to be appointed as Head Teacher of Bishop Winnington-Ingram Church of England Primary School. I feel extremely honoured and privileged to have been chosen to build upon the success the school has already achieved.
As a face to face meeting was not possible, due to Covid-19, I was fortunate enough to recently have had a telephone conversation with Mrs Blake about her new role. Her enthusiasm for the task ahead was immediately obvious as she spoke about her love of the job and the importance of all children attending a supportive, high quality school where every child has the opportunity to reach their potential. Her enthusiasm was certainly a quality that impressed the Governors, together with her energy and experience.
Mrs Blake believes that working in unison with parents and carers is a vital part of her role and she expressed her regret that, under the present restrictions, she cannot have that interaction which would allow parents and carers to meet her and she with them, other than at the school gate every morning.
Taking on such a role at what is a very challenging time for schools, Mrs Blake wants to make her pupils’ return to school, after months at home, as normal an experience as possible, whilst obviously abiding by the Covid protocols to ensure the safety of all children and staff. Whole school assemblies are not possible at present, however, each class still has a daily assembly and once a week Father Simon from St Martin’s Church sends a recorded assembly which is played to every class. Sadly all Christmas plays cannot be performed to an audience of parents/carers this year but the shows will still be performed and recorded so they may be viewed at home.
Mrs Blake’s aim is to give back to BWI as it gave to me so many years ago; to help drive Bishop Winnington-Ingram further forward to becoming an outstanding school of choice.
Mrs Blake informed me that there are some school places still available. Enquiries should be made directly to the school.
Very best wishes for the future go to Mrs Blake, the staff and pupils of Bishop Winnington-Ingram C of E Primary School.
