This year Bishop Ramsey C of E School held its annual Carol Service at St Paul’s Church, Ruislip Manor on Monday, December 16th. to a packed congregation. The service began with the choir of students walking up the aisle to take their place on the platform at the front of the church in readiness to lead the whole congregation in singing the opening well-known, popular carol “Once in Royal David’s City”.
Everyone present was then welcomed by Rev, Susy Dand, the School Chaplain, who also delivered the Opening Prayer. Next the school’s Canterbury Choir sang “Sing Hallelujah” which was followed by the first Bible reading by Daniel Bisland, KS5 Student. “Hark the Herald Angels Sing” was then enthusiastically sung by the choir and whole congregation.
Following a further performance by the Canterbury Choir of “O Come O Come Emmanuel – For King and Country”, Dr. Hilary Macaulay, Executive Headteacher, gave the second Bible reading. Two female students, aptly named The Angel Voices, then gave a beautifully emotional performance of “O Holy Night”. Further Bible readings were later given by Charity Jones, Trustee and Teacher Mr Aaron Briscoe. Two more well-known carols, “In The Bleak Winter” and “O Come All You Faithful” were included in the service, as well as “Noel – Chris Tomlin with Lauren Daigle” played by The Chaplaincy Band. and I Speak Jesus” played by The Staff Band.
The service ended with a Collect from Rev. Susy Dand, followed by the Blessing and Dismissal. Finally the congregation was wished “Merry Christmas Everyone” played by The Canterbury and Staff Choirs and the Rhythm & Horn Section. People were in no hurry to leave the church as they engaged in happy conversation and wished each other a joyful festive season. The true meaning of Christmas had been delightfully celebrated.
