Bishop Ramsey School’s Spring Afternoon Tea

On Thursday, April 23rd. Bishop Ramsey School, like many of our local schools, opened their doors to their local community and offered people the opportunity once again to be guests at their Spring Afternoon Tea from 12.30pm to 2.00pm. On a lovely sunny afternoon this event provided time for everyone to socialise and possibly even make some new friends.

When everyone was seated at the many tables in the school hall, Mr Malcolm Britton, Headteacher, warmly welcomed his guests and hoped they would enjoy their experience. It was then time for tea to begin. Each place was set with an attractive paper plate and matching paper napkin as well as an individual gift pouch containing a tea bag, two Vienna Whirls, a chocolate and a book mark with the message BR Loves Reading designed by Rena, a Year 7 student.

The menu consisted of tasty sandwiches, provided by a local supermarket, cakes, pastries and the classic English scones topped with jam and clotted cream. Students were very helpful in ensuring that there were replacements for the plates of goodies that very soon became empty and serving tea from the dainty teapots. In fact, the students contributed considerably to the friendly atmosphere of the occasion by moving round the tables confidently chatting with guests. One Year 9 student, Noah, deserves special mention for his effort. The Head Students already chosen for the school year 2026/27, Nick and Sophia, were kept busy overseeing proceedings and introducing themselves to guests. It was also good to see that Mr Michael Udall, past Headteacher and Mrs Catherine Dann, past Chair of Governors were present and still attend events after many years.

During the afternoon there was also solo performances by Rebecca who sang You Can’t Hurry Love and Emily as well as a musical theatre performance by a girl choir.

Others who entertained were the Jazz Trio, Zak, Noah and William who performed Autumn Leaves. There were also quiz sheets to complete for fun which were created by Louise Stockwell, a member of the Office Team, as well as a free raffle ticket for every guest present with prizes donated by members of staff.

At the end of the event Mr Britton thanked everyone for attending and also expressed his thanks to the school’s Office Team for the work they put in to send out all the many invitations. On leaving the Hall many guests made a donation in order that this heart-warming event could continue in the future. Congratulations Bishop Ramsey School for another great community event.
