Lady Bankes Primary School’s Year Six Show

Show’s Cast Taking a Break.

On Thursday, July 9th the Year Six pupils presented their traditional end of primary school show. The title, Pirates of the Curry Bean, indicated to the large audience of proud parents that this was a story that they would find amusing as well as entertaining. We learn that their ship is so named because the pirates’ favourite meal is (yes, you’ve guessed it!) curry and beans.

At the heart of the story is an unusual treasure map found by the Periwinkle family in their tavern which they hide in a safe, Mrs Periwinkle, played very confidently by Melissa, will become an important character who eventually brings the whole story to a happy ending. However, there are many problems to overcome before that.

On their way to discover the origin of the unknown map they meet a band of obscure pirates who stand in their way. The pirates having discovered the Periwinkle’s secret, break into the family tavern and steal the treasure map and capture Mrs Periwinkle. Her children, Jack, played by Aran and Lisa, played by Sofia P. are able to persuade the captain to take them aboard their ship the Crunchy Frog and help them find their missing  mother and treasure map. The two ships, now at sea, collide unexpectantly and the Periwinkle family are reunited once again but an unnecessary fight breaks out between the pirates and sailors of the Curry Bean and Crunchy Frog. In the end all of them are washed ashore on the island of Lumbago and meet the natives who, at first, are unimpressed.

The story has a happy ending. The treasure is found at last in a huge chest brought onto the stage and all involved agree to share the contents.

For the pupils performing, this would be the last time the whole year group will have worked together. Inspite of the very warm weather, every single girl and boy gave their everything to make this such a successful production. Their timing when bringing out parts of the humorous script was very professional, their singing, whether solo or in a large group, was full of energy and their movement was visually perfectly synchronised.

Finally, Mr Haygreen, Assistant Headteacher, thanked the parents for attending, congratulated the pupils on their performance and thanked staff who had made the props and costumes.

Hopefully this production will be a memory all the pupils will take with them. Ruislip Residents’ Association send their best wishes to them for a happy and successful new stage in their lives at their chosen secondary schools.
