Short film ‘Room to Grow’ about what the RAGC means to some of the people involved with it

As the Rural Activities Garden Centre in the London Borough of Hillingdon faces closure, this short film by Megan Williams looks at what the RAGC means to some of the people involved with it.

The Rural Activities Garden Centre (RAGC) in Hillingdon is a unique and vital resource for our community.  More than just a place to buy plants, it provides a safe, welcoming, and enriching environment for adults with learning difficulties and autism.  The RAGC is a space where volunteers can build confidence, learn new skills, and find a sense of purpose.

For over 30 years, the RAGC has been a lifeline for many.  Volunteers and their families share stories of how the centre has helped them grow, find happiness, and connect with others.  The RAGC offers a sanctuary where people can feel valued and find independence.  Doctors have even noted that for some patients, volunteering at the centre has reduced their need for medication and GP visits.

As a residents’ association, we strongly object to plans to close the RAGC.  Even though it is outside of Ruislip, its effects are felt within.  We have residents who attend, families who depend on it, and we would all be worse off if it closes.  The impact of losing this special place would be devastating for its volunteers and their families.  It would mean taking away their sanctuary, their community, and their independence.

We are proud to stand with the Friends of RAGC in their campaign to keep it open.  We encourage all residents to lend their voice and support this essential part of our community.
