Watering Ruislip’s Community Orchard with Hillingdon’s new Mayor, Philip Corthorne

Wednesday 21st of May saw the Mayor of Hillingdon, Cllr. Philip Corthorne, (the long serving councillor for the Ruislip ward), join with the Ruislip Residents’ Association, (RRA), to water the 20-tree Community Orchard planted on Ruislip Common to celebrate the centenary of the RRA
The event is part of our Council’s campaign to encourage residents to water urban and street trees during times of reduced rainfall, to ensure these trees survive through these periods of water stress.
The green tree gaiters, which can hold upto 80 litres of water, have a slow release function. Any added water will slowly leak out, allowing the water to penetrate into the soil, reaching the trees‘ roots, rather than a sudden, brief deluge that runs off the soil surface and is wasted.
Do you have a gaitered street tree near you?  Consider adding a watering can of life sustaining water to your local tree this Summer.
