McDonald’s restaurant has been on Ruislip High Street for 30 years, employs 80 local people and regularly serves many more.
They are temporarily closed while they extend their restaurant into the unit next door (previously The Linen Chest) and return it to work as a more “traditional” fastfood takeaway and restaurant configuration.
After a series of planning applications to navigate the changes in the buildings, opening hours, and airconditioning units fitted at the back, they are closed for a few weeks for complete redevelopment. On reopening they will have 120-150 seats inside, achieved partially through the expansion into the extra space, and partially by moving the delivery drivers out of the restaurant itself, and to a new purpose-designed collection point to the rear of the shop – away from the high street.
There will be a dedicated entrance just for couriers (the motorcycle and bike delivery drivers working with Just Eat, Uber Eats, Deliveroo etc), to streamline operations and minimize disruptions for their in-restaurant guests.
From the planning applications, we have these images and mockups of the plans. Below you can see a current photo from Google Streetview (showing The Linen Chest and McDonald’s) and the new design and signage (showing the extended McDonald’s):
Around the back of the McDonald’s restaurant will be the new collection point that will be used by Just Eat, Uber Eats, Deliveroo etc drivers/riders who collect orders for delivery. This will take them away from the front and the inside of the restaurant.
The plans show the rear entrance – see our annotated extract below:
We understand that the McDonald’s branch in South Ruislip (underneath Asda and Cineworld) successfully uses a similar system of separation between restaurant users and delivery drivers, and it is with their experience that they are designing and bringing the same idea and improvements to Ruislip High Street.
We are supportive of the intention behind the plans – of alleviating the congestion and density of motorcycle rider-couriers on Ruislip High Street.
The redevelopment is a substantial job and investment – McDonald’s on Ruislip High Street will be closed for about eight weeks (during which time, employees are being temporarily relocated) for the construction work.
