Hillingdon Cabinet approves fortnightly garden waste and £69 wheelie bins to replace sacks, without asking residents. Email councillors before Friday’s deadline

Deadline for councillors: 5pm on Friday 30 October 2026.

On 22 October 2026 Hillingdon's Cabinet agreed to replace garden waste sacks with 240-litre wheelie bins and to move from weekly collections to fortnightly collections all year round from April 2027. There was no public consultation. Households with six sacks would pay £138 a year instead of £77.

Residents cannot call in a Cabinet decision. Only councillors can. This decision goes to the Residents' Services Select Committee, and a call-in needs a majority of its seven members (four). This form sends your email to all seven, with a copy to you, and sends a separate message to your ward councillors. If the committee calls it in, the decision is put on hold and the committee must meet within 10 working days. It can then let the decision stand or send it back to Cabinet, which makes the final decision. So call-in is not a veto, but it puts the questions on the public record and gives the committee a chance to win changes.

    Choose your reasons

Try to pick one reason from each section, the one that matters most to you. You may pick a second where it matters to you, but no more than two from any section and no more than 10 in all. Each one opens a short suggested paragraph. Please edit it into your own words: a personal email carries more weight than an identical one. You can add your own reasons at the end.
