The school held its Carol Service at St Lawrence Church, Eastcote on Monday, December 18th. The service began with choir members processing up the aisle to the choir stalls carrying lighted candles. The Reverend Dr John Seymour welcomed the congregation and expressed his pleasure at once again being able to hold the service in the church following the Covid pandemic. Reverend Susy Dand, the school’s chaplain, then offered the Opening Prayer.
The Year 7 Singers and Canterbury Choir opened the service by singing Light of The World. They were accompanied on the guitar by Matt Bird from Emmanuel Church, Northwood, who generously volunteers his support to such performances. The first reading was then confidently delivered by Sienna, KS4 student which was followed by the congregation singing the Carol, Joy to the World. Following the second reading by Rev Dr Seymour, The Ramsey Singers – Tiffany, Kayley & Rebekah, Year 11, performed in perfect harmony Mary Did You Know? by Michael English. This was a beautiful moment in the service which moved members of the congregation. Next was a lovely reading of Little Baby Jesus from Nathan, KS3 student, then a performance of Holy Water sung by The Canterbury Choir and professionally accompanied on the piano by David, Year 9 and two guitarists; the singers clapped hands in time to the music. Towards the end of the service the school’s Deputy Head Students Ted and Heather, spoke openly and honestly about how over the years their faith has become an important part of their lives, giving it more meaning and purpose as they approach adulthood; this was quite inspirational.

To bring the service to a rousing conclusion All I Want for Christmas is You was performed by The Canterbury Choir, Staff Choir and The Jazz Band. This was really appreciated by members of the congregation who joined in by swaying and clapping in time to the music. Mr Britton then encouraged everyone to give all the participants, including Ms Walsh and Mr Bampaliaris from the Music Department, a huge appreciative round of applause for their hard work in preparing for such a meaningful and joyful introduction to the festive season, to which they willingly responded.
