Condition of the land and building ENF/371/25

The LBH Planning Enforcement Team were made aware of concerns in relation to the condition of the land in June 2025. They assessed the site and established that the condition of the pub building adversely effects the amenity of the area due to graffiti which was visible from the wider site and street scene. Warning correspondence were issued to the site management company requiring that steps be taken to remedy the condition of the building by removal of graffiti.

A compliance inspection was completed on 23/09/2025, at which time it was noted that the graffiti had been painted over and the harm to the amenity of the area resolved. The enforcement file has now been closed.

Update on the locally listed monument (the Spitfire) ENF/652/24

The Polish Air Force Memorial Committee have shared some photos confirming that the restoration of the Spitfire monument continues.  The Spitfire was in a very poor condition as it’s not [currently] suitable for outdoor display. All the necessary structural repairs have been completed and it’s had its primer/undercoat and that the next stage will be painting the underside.  This will then be followed with painting the upper two colour camouflage surface. Again there is an ongoing investigation into the correct colours and of course the correct paint. The 303sqn insignia and Donald Duck emblem will be replaced and a new perspex cockpit canopy fitted. This will come from the company in Southampton which originally made the model for Elstree Studies.

There remains an information sign on site confirming that the locally listed monument has been removed temporarily for restoration.

The Polish Air Force Memorial Committee intend to restore the locally listed monument once the works are complete and in the meantime we will continue to monitor progress.
