The Rural Activities Garden Centre’s petiton hearing is this evening

Tonight at 18:00 there will be a petition hearing for The Rural Activities Garden Centre’s petition against its closure.

The Friends of the Rural Activities Garden Centre is asking that as many people as possible attend the Civic Centre in person to give a big show of support.

Petition Hearings are usually held in small committee rooms, but in a sign that the council know the strength of feeling against their proposed closure of RAGC, it is scheduled to be in the full Council Chamber.

The petitions themselves are still open: early on Wednesday morning they stand at 630 signatures on the LBH ePetition website and a staggering 5400 on the Change.org petition.  If you haven’t signed either petiton, we encourage you to do so: we believe that the RAGC is an important facility and do not agree either with its closure, or the arguments used in an attempt to justify its closure.  The Friends of the RAGC’s website has an additional list of other ways you can show your support.

How to get to the meeting

From Uxbridge town centre, walk to the Civic Centre and walk up the steps below the new Library sign on the left of the square, not the main entrance ahead of you.

See the arrow in the picture here. From the top of those stairs, walk straight ahead and under the covered area – there are some double doors which will be staffed from about 17:30 with security.

If you can’t attend

The meeting will be livestreamed on YouTube – you will be able to watch via the stream below

The petition hearing starts at 18:00, and straight after that, at 19:00 the Planning Commitee hearing will start in Committee Room 5, just down the corridor.  At tonight’s meeting, Lidl’s application at The Orchard will be decided.

If you’re ever to attend the Civic Centre to watch any of the meetings held in public, tonight is a good one to start with!

Multiple members of the Ruislip Residents’ Association’s committee will be at the Civic Centre, both for the petiton hearing at 18:00 and the planning commitee meeting at 19:00.
