OWL is to be discontinued: register with NWN now

The Police’s email communication system, OWL, will be discontinued at the end of October 2024. It is, for us, no more – it has fallen off its perch, and ceased to be.

From November, our local police will use the national Neighbourhood Watch Network (“NWN”) system to manage membership and send messages.

There is no automatic transfer of subscriber data from OWL To NWN – residents must register themselves with NWN directly.

Dave Ludlow, the police’s Community Coordinator writes…

The NWN system will allow us to message you with updates on crime in your area, and to help you engage with your local Police.

Your data won’t automatically be transferred to NWN as part of this move, so we urgently need your help please to ensure that Hillingdon continues to have the highest NHW membership of any London Borough.

Signing up to NWN only takes a couple of minutes.

• After submitting details you will receive an email with a 6-digit number to enter
• On the next page select your home address
• Scroll down and select the three message providers marked “Recommended”
• Create a password and click “Complete Registration”
• You do not need to select any Watches at this stage
• If you have a CCTV system, please tick “I have CCTV” under “Interests & About You” > “Security Surveillance” from the Home page

Additional Information on the closure of OWL:

• We’ve greatly appreciated the service that OWL has provided since 2018 and the crimes that it has directly helped the police to solve, but sadly the Mayor’s Office for Policing And Crime (MOPAC) contract with OWL will not be renewed after 31st Oct 2024.

• There is currently no replacement service for the Police to message you directly but your engagement with them is obviously crucial to reducing crime, so key Police messages will now need to be circulated to residents via us at Neighbourhood Watch using NWN.
• Further updates will follow for those who sign up to the NWN system before 31st October 2024.
