Ruislip ward councillor Cllr Peter Smallwood asked “Can the Cabinet member confirm that Hillingdon Council is not levying parking charges on those visiting Breakspear Crematorium to pay their respects to deceased relatives?” at the full Council meeting on Thursday 11th July 2025.
That was a question asked to the Cabinet Member for Community & Environment, Cllr Eddie Lavery – ward councillor for Ickenham & South Harefield. As you can watch and hear in the recording of his answer, he said:
I am delighted to confirm that is not the case.
This is an online rumor, and I do wish those spreading it would decease.
The carpark at Brakespear Crematorium is large and divided by barriers. The parking team have taken responsibility for a small area of this car park which is separate from the main area and used on weekends where Ruislip Lido is expected to be very busy. We would expect to charge for that: those are visitors to the Lido and we’ve already had a question on that matter earlier tonight.
Those visiting the crematorium to pay their respects to their deceased relatives would normally park in the lower car park, and that is not charged. There are no car there are no machines there.
We use a smaller area for Lido parking on the two Sundays of the year where we expect the maximum number of visitors: that being Easter Sunday – if it falls within season – and Father’s Day.
