The school’s Year 6 pupils presented their final show Robin And The Sherwood Hoodies to a full house on Thursday July 3rd. Although based on a well known story, this show was adapted to contain lively songs, some new characters who sometimes engaged in humorous conversations which added to the fun experienced by the audience.
The show began with the introduction introduction introduction of Maid Marion, played by Nancy, who is one of the villagers who lives in Sherwood. She has just returned from a stroll in Sherwood Forest, when the vile Sheriff of Nottingham, King John’s first hand man, appears in town. Nancy gave a beautiful solo performance of a song celebrating that Sherwood is a place “where dreams come true.” She then disappears. Meanwhile the vile Sheriff of Nottingham, played excellently by Emilie, appears in town. King John, played by Jack H who relies on the Sheriff as his first hand man, has doubled taxes, much to the disgust of the villagers, who want justice and freedom. Both actors play their parts convincingly – one feels the need to boo these baddies! Robin is presented with a letter from Marion and promises that he and his Merry Men will not forsake her. They sing “All you need is a helping hand.” Later the Sheriff of Nottingham announces his new henchmen, Grabbit and Bolt (G & B) played by Jake and Arlo, who brought out the fun in their dialogue.
However, Robin and his Merry Men are able to chase them out of the forest. G & B return to King John followed by some guards and the Sheriff and describe the horrors they had to deal with in Sherwood Forest. Eventually G & B present who they believe to be Robin to King John but, it happens to be Marion! the King realises that Marion is bait for Robin and sets his trap by sending Marion to the dungeon. Robin and his Men go to rescue Marion. The King’s plan works and Robin, Nursie, played by Emilia, and his Merry Men have been captured. Later there are a few surprises to come but Robin has finally triumphed and the show finishes on a joyful performance by the whole cast who chant, Cue the Music, Light the Light, then sing the very rhythmical song See The Greatest Show Tonight to which the audience tapped their feet and clapped their hands.
The whole of Year 6 are to be congratulated for what was a brilliantly entertaining show. The many weeks of rehearsals and work by Ms Beth Mackerness and all staff involved was certainly worth the final outcome. Mrs Kate Needs, Headteacher, told parents and guests present how very proud she was of all the pupils and teachers who made the show the great success it was.
Very best wishes for their future success go to all the Year 6 pupils who will embark on the next stage of their education at Secondary School in September.*
