Lady Bankes Primary School’s Platinum Jubilee Celebration
On Thursday, May 26th Lady Bankes Primary School held an event to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. The event was organised by FOLBA (Friends of Lady Bankes Association) and took place on the school field from 3.00pm to 5.00pm. FOLBA is made up of parents of pupils, staff and members of the local community. The main focus for this year is to raise funds for a MUGA (Multi Use Games Area) which would be an excellent addition to the school and a wonderful facility for children to use all the year round.

A big attraction was the Bouncy Castle which could be accessed numerous times with the purchase of a £3 wristband. Another popular purchase was the offer of ten 50p tokens which could be spent at the many stalls of which there was a huge variety. One stall that was very popular was selling tempting looking cakes, donated by parents, where there were long queues. The fire engine from Ruislip Fire Station was also popular – children were allowed to explore inside the fire engine supervised by firemen. On leaving they were presented with an Activity Book.
The afternoon was extremely well attended and all visitors, adults and children, had lots of fun. It was estimated that the event made approximately £1,200.

Bishop Ramsey’s Years 7-10 Prize Giving
Bishop Ramsey CofE School held their Prize Giving for years 7-10 students on June 22nd. The audience of proud parents, carers and friends were welcome to the evening’s event by two confident, articulate year 10 students, Charlie Cadman and Georgia Bishop who also introduced the Guest of Honour, Rev’d Ann Lynes, vicar of Holy Trinity, Northwood and Area Dean of Harrow.
The school’s Executive Head Teacher, Dr Hilary Macaulay, addressed the audience. She spoke of her pleasure that the school could once again hold such an event following the restrictions imposed by the Covid epidemic. She reiterated that the purpose of the school was much more than preparing students for exams but developing the whole person, one who puts service before self.
Charlie Cadman & Georgia Bishop
Prizes were presented for the academic year 2021-22 by Rev’d Lynes. They were awarded to the high achievers in every form group and individual subject prizes for significant achievement in curriculum subjects and work experience. The winners were each introduced by members of staff who gave a resumé of their special qualities which led to them being nominated for the prize.
All the prize winners are to be congratulated for their achievements but a special mention goes to Charlie Cadman who won the prize for Physical Education Years 7-10. Charlie plays hockey for London who won the South Counties Championship and he also took part in the London Vitality 10km Run, coming 18th out of 1,132 competitors!
As well as subject prizes there were also those awarded to students in the Special Prizes category. Among these winners there were two year 7 students. William Birch won the prize for Commitment to the Community and Independent Spirit for his voluntary work at a local food bank. Nadira Roberts won the prize for Courage and Determination for raisng money for the Solidarity Sunflower Campaign to help children in Ukraine.
Rev’d Ann Lynes then gave her address which was ideally pitched to her student audience and was met with appreciative applause. A vote of thanks was given by Charlie and Georgia who presented Rev’d Lynes with a gift. The event ended with a hymn and blessing by Rev’d Susy Dand, School Chaplain.
Uxbridge College Students’ Experience of a Lifetime In Prague
Students had the experience of a lifetime after travelling to Prague as part of the Erasmus Programme. This scheme provides free movement and education exchange between registered universities and institutions for eligible students. The Turing Scheme has been launched to replace the Erasmus programme in which the UK can no longer participate having left the EU.
Following a highly competitive interview process, the college’s Computing and IT students spent three weeks in the Czech capital. As well as working with a range of Tech companies they were able to tour the city to learn about its history, architecture and art. In the workplace, tasks included working with social media, VR and content production, as well as working with professionals.
Some comments by students on their experience include: “A must-have experience for every student”; “Amazing” and “Sensational!”
The college will continue to provide overseas work experience opportunities, including placements for 80 students from across the college in 2022-23 under the new Turing scheme.
