Other local retail facilities

There is a parade of local shops in Howletts Lane, much valued by local people, a number of specialist workshops with retail facilities on the Manor Farm site (as well as regular Duck Pond Markets) and a significant number of local shops in West End Road, just north of Ruislip Gardens Underground Station, which serve our members in the south of our area.  Over time ahead, this page will contain information about proposals for these parades, as proposals arise.

South Ruislip has a thriving shopping parade here in West End Road, a few steps away from Ruislip Gardens Station, but the mood of its customers is sombre. The proposed route for HS2 passes across the bridge that towers above.  If the proposals go ahead, some local people will lose their homes to compulsory purchase.  Others fear that planning-blight will trap them in homes that they cannot sell.  Looking ahead, will the shops and the popular pub survive the threats? What faces this street-scene while the bridge is rebuilt?  And when all is done, will the noise of high speed trains plague every waking hour?

Currently the HS2  proposals are simply "the Government's preferred route", so there is still time for re-thinking of the option to tunnel the route under Ruislip - which would spare this area and its people.  Public consultation on the HS2 proposals continues until the end of July.  Local people are urged to submit their concerns.  Read more about it on our High Speed 2 page.

For people living this far from Ruislip High Street, it is a great benefit to have a local parade of shops for day-to-day purchases.   Parking is sometimes not easy, but many people arrive on foot from local homes.   With its local bus service, local shops and local pub, this is almost a village in its own right.
