Identity Theft or Bogus ID

Police are advising residents and/or traders in this area to be aware of bogus identity or ID theft.

How do you know if you are victim to this type of fraud?

Are you missing regular monthly statements?

Have you noticed changes to your accounts that are not yours?

bullet

Are you being contacted by a debt collection agency about outstanding payments for items or services that you have not ordered?

 Take Action – Act quickly!!

Don’t ignore the problem, you may not have ordered the goods, or opened an account but the debt falls to your name and address.

Contact the company(s) or agency in writing to explain the circumstances.

bullet

Obtain legal advice (solicitor and/or Citizens Advice Bureau).

Be careful with your personal information

When destroying personal correspondence, utility bills or bank/credit card statements use a shedder or tear into very small pieces to mix with other waste products in refuse bins.

If you do move address inform Royal Mail to redirect all post and inform all the companies, businesses and family/friends that send personal information.
